Three players reached double figures and Lady Reivers defeated Doane JV 78-48 in the Holiday Inn Classic Friday night.

Freshman Marina Fox led the way with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds, and sophomore Valerie Wood scored 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting before making her exit.

For the game, Iowa Western hit 49 percent of its shots from the field, including a 30-percent clip from beyond the 3-point line. Marla Metzger went 2-of-4 shooting beyond the arc.

Lady Reivers returns to the court tomorrow night for the final game of the Classic against Hastings JV at 5 p.m...

“I just thought we did not play to our talent level in the first half. I’m very pleased how they responded after halftime,” said Coach Jim Turgeon. “In the second half we got it cranked up to the tempo of our liking, where we can get up and down the floor.” “We definitely wanted to challenge them baseline to baseline.”

Turgeon said team came out a little sluggish. “We began the game kind of sluggish. Marina Fox kind of saved us the first half and continued it the second half. I am happy with the win, and we played better in the second half, but we have to be more consistent and eliminate some of our mistakes.”

Sophomore Guard Amber Peterson said teammates Valerie Wood and Marina Fox contributed to the winning effort. "Valerie did an excellent job of giving us a push off the bench with 16 points. She does a great job attacking the offensive and defensive glass. Marina dominated the post tonight and when she does that no team can stop us.”
