Surrounding athletes from Iowa's Southwest Region got to test their skills on the court at the 2nd Annual Special Olympics Basketball Contest, hosted by Iowa Western Community College. Over 200 participants gathered in the Kanesville Arena last Tuesday for a morning of fun and team work with the Lady Reivers basketball team.
Athletes formed teams that were grouped according to age and ability with everyone having a chance to compete in different basketball skills including; dribbling, passing and shooting. All of the athletes received ribbons for their efforts. Organizers say win or lose, everyone has a good time.
"It was incredible to be apart of this. We had fun working with all the kids and encouraging them as they competed." Sophomore, Melanie McCreight mentioned. "Everyone is smiling and giving high fives."
