Two players from the Iowa Western Women's Basketball program were named to the Region XI selection teams this year. Sophomore Kayla Williams was selected for 1st team All-Region and Sophomore Negesti Taylor was selected for 2nd team All-Region.
Kayla Williams, 5'6 starting guard, was leading scorer for the Lady Reivers for the past two seasons. The sophomore guard completed her illustrious career with breaking two women's basketball records. Williams set the career record for most 3 point field goals made with 163 as well as set an individual single season record for most 3 point field goals made in the 08-09 season with 85. She set a personal record against Southeast C.C. on February 14th with scoring 31. "Kayla is very deserving of the selection." Head Coach Jim Turgeon offered. "She has worked very hard to improve her game. She came to IWCC as a shooter and is leaving us as a complete basketball player."
Negesti Taylor, 6'2 starting center, was leading rebounder for the Lady Reivers for the past two seasons. The sophomore center also broke a couple of women's basketball records. She set the individual single season record for most rebounds this season with 282 total rebounds. She averaged 9.1 rebounds per game, which also broke the record for the highest rebound average in a single season. Taylor compiled 498 rebounds in her two year stint at Iowa Western. This broke the previous record of 491 from 2005-07. Taylor finished the season averaging a near double double with 10 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game.
"Negesti is a talented young lady that was one of the top rebounders in the country this year" commented Coach Turgeon. "She will have success at the next level."
Taylor signed with Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. Williams is still undecided where she will continue her basketball career.
