Williams signs with St. Francis College (NY)

Kayla Williams, a sophomore at Iowa Western Community College signed with St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, NY. The Terrier Women's Basketball is a Division I NCAA program and apart of the Northeast Conference (NEC).

 

"Kayla is very deserving of this scholarship." Head Coach Jim Turgeon mentioned. "She has put in a lot of hours on and off the court the past two years to get to the division I level."

A 5-foot-6 shooting guard, Williams was leading scorer for the Lady Reivers for the past two seasons. During the 2008-2009 season, Williams broke two women's basketball records. Setting the career record for most 3 point field goals made with 163 and set an individual single season record for most 3 point field goals with 85 this past season. Williams averaged 14.1 points and 1.6 assists per game her freshman year and 15.3 points and 2.9 assists her sophomore year. She knocked down 163 three-pointers during her career at IWCC, hitting 36.4 percent from behind the arc, and was an 86 percent free throw shooter.

As a team captain her sophomore year, Williams was named first team All-Region in Region XI.

A native of Houston, TX, Williams attended Humble High School, where she was named district MVP in 2007. She also was named Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star her senior year. She was honorable mention all-district as a sophomore and second team all-district honoree as a junior.
